When reading the story of Esther I always just read it as if it was about an 18 month event. ๐คI know she had a full year of beauty treatments and then add in a few months for the before and after fluff so about 18 mths.
๐
Today while reading her story I found out it was years. ๐ณ
Here is the bullet point break down.
*Esther 1:3 (my words) This was the King’s ๐3rd year of being king when he holds the banquet and then kicks his original queen out for disobeying.
*Esther 1:16-17. This was the king’s ๐ 7th year of reign when Esther become Queen.
So already 4 entire years ๐ณ๐ณ have gone by since the original queen got booted, the king gathered women to pick his favorite, Esther had her full year of treatment, spent an evening with the king, and now finally becomes queen. I had no idea that much time had gone by.
*Esther 3:7 In King Xerxes ๐12 year of reign Haman set in motion a plan to kill the entire Jewish race, setting the date about one year later.
๐What?? She was queen for 5 years before the plan to kill her race was even voiced. I did not know. Did you??
All in all, give or take some time ๐9 whopping years passed between when the original queen was kicked out setting in motion the searching of a new queen and Esther taking her place in history.
The point of all this is don’t despise things moving slow, or seemingly not at all, God’s timing is perfect, even when it seems to be the very last min (see Esther 5:14 and all of ch6 for another amazing story of God’s perfect timing )
Whether it is a quick movement or a slow process do not ever think for one second that God is not working because he is.
Esther’s story is one of my favorite Bible stories. Like you I am rather surprised at the time line.
