The new adventure of homeschooling

Sunday March 17, 2019 Kori, my 10th grader asked to go hiking around Radnor lake. This is in fact my love language. I am all for exploring the spaces around us and not being on electronics but getting my children to join me on these adventures….with happy hearts….is a huge challenge. So, when my daughter ask to go hiking I, just short of pushing her out of the way, ran to the van saying YES.  The next day, my youngest daughter, Ava asked to go walking around the neighborhood. I was thrilled and fully enjoyed the time we spent outside on our nature walk. I came home and posted pictures of what we found and while scrolling Instagram I had this overwhelming desire to home school.

Here is the thing. I love everything about home schooling but I knew it was not my season to do it. I have done it in the past and my experiences are a whole other post. I had just talked to my friend a couple of days ago about loving the idea but didn’t feel it was what God was calling me to do. So imagine my surprise when I now felt this overwhelming need to home school. I went and told Jerry this strange change of events and said “Don’t say anything….just pray.”

We spent the next month praying and I never wavered in my desire to school the littles at home. It was like it was around the corner the whole time and I just finally saw it and was like “Duh, of course, I am a home schooling mom”

I never imagine my self doing school for a high schooler, yet here we are. I have a rising 11th grader , 7th grader, and 5th grader. We are going to be part of an amazing co-op that teachers them the important subjects, not the fluff ones. I can do art and P.E. I wanted help with things like history and social studies. I NEEDED help with things like highschool Math and science with a lab. I also wanted a place that allowed all the kids to go to the same school. There are lots of amazing schools but many of them had the breaks in the ages forcing my 5th grader to go to a different school. This defeated the purpose and desire to travel and explore more.

I am beyond thrilled to start school this year. I am bursting with ideas and really look forward to seeing how they all pan out and what gets pushed to the side as we work out our new daily rhythm
